Fans Demand Arrest of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the actress are demanding that a person who jumped a fence and seized the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared clip reveals the Australian man bypassing photographers and charging at Grande while the cast proceeded down a event pathway surrounded by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being detained", though legal records indicated that he was set to appear on the next day. It is uncertain if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a performance. His Instagram account features recordings of him disrupting other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney show in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last winter.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is obviously a punishable act," stated an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Voice Worry Over the Star's Well-being
Several followers accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the end of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said another message on Instagram.
A number of attendees also faulted guards at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while others requested digital services to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Event Details
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande looked shocked when she was approached by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Many of supporters had congregated in a mass of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore mall, including a number who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The movie, to be released on November 21, is the second of a two-film adaptation of the popular theatrical show Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely friendship between two distinct witches.
The show itself is a derivative of the twentieth-century book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and received ten Oscar nominations, winning two for best costume and artistic direction.
