Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
