The network's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Network Praise
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about following this endearing family go about their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running cynical streak. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially help usher in that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
